Indoor outdoor carpet is durable carpet that is designed to withstand weather, moisture, and pool chemicals. This type of carpet is less expensive that the regular carpet. It is often used in porches, sunrooms. Play rooms, changing and mud room. In addition to Decks patios walks and pools.

When choosing an indoor outdoor carpet it is wise to find one that is made from Olefin. Carpet made from this material is generally moisture, stain resistant, and protection from fading in the sun. This added treatment also lengthens the life of the carpet. It is recommended to treat the carpet every couple of years because the chemicals break down with normal wear and tear.

It should have a backing to prevent falls and to keep them in place. Like the other carpet it should be chemically treated to prevent moisture, and stains.

Before purchasing compare density and backing. The thicker the carpet the longer it will last and it will feel better to walk across. Make sure it has a moisture barrier if there is any chance that it will get wet. You would want to choose a higher quality thicker carpet if you plan to use it in areas with a lot of activities

The Wind Could Be Powering Your House Right Now.

Wind can be an awesome force of nature, just ask anyone who has been in a tornado or powerful hurricane. We can harness this wind for the use of generating electricity for our world. When the sun shines it heats the earth, but since the earth is made of different materials and is of differing heights and valleys it heats unevenly, especially over land and water.

During the day the land obviously heats faster than in the evening, because the sun is out. The water also heats up, but not as fast. Water also cools slower then land so at night the wind reverses course. When the heat rises, the cool air comes in to fill in where the heat is not, and this is when the wind is created.

Today, we use wind energy mainly to generate electricity to run homes, businesses or communities. Wind is a safe, clean, renewable energy source, this is because as long as the sun will shine, the wind will blow, and this is a constant factor in our earth’s environment.

Much like the old fashioned windmills, the wind machines we use today use blades to collect the wind’s energy. Windmills work because they harness the power of the wind to generate electricity. Even the new wind machines must have wind to work, so when the wind isn’t blowing other types of power have to be used, like solar panel energy.

There are two types of turbines used today they are based on the direction of the rotating shaft for example; horizontal axis wind machines, and vertical axis wind machines. Sizes of wind machines can vary widely. There are smaller turbines used to power a home or small business, and they may have a capacity of less than 100 kilowatts. Larger commercial sized turbines may have a capacity of 5 million watts, or even as high as 5 megawatts. The large turbines are often found in wind farms that provide power to an electrical grid.

Most turbines used today are the horizontal axis type. The horizontal axis turbines have blades that are made like airplane propellers. A horizontal wind machine will typically stand about as tall as a 20-story building and has three blades that can span as much as 200 feet across. The largest turbines in the world actually have blades that are longer than a football field. Wind Turbines are built to stand tall and wide to capture more wind effectively.

One criticism of electric wind power is that the windmills necessary to generate power are massive and noisy. Their use is typically limited to remote areas of the countryside, where there is a greater expanse of open space and higher terrain. This makes their widespread use impractical for densely populated areas.

Reduce Monthly Electricity Costs on Lighting

This article is the first of a list of practical things you can do to save lots of money on your monthly electric consumption bills with DIY cut monthly electricity costs. You could purchase some new green products or maybe even use the extra money to buy yourself a little vacation.

Compact Fluorescent Lamp aka CFL or circular fluorescent bulb. A CFL does not generate light the way incandescent bulbs do.

Incandescent light bulbs essentially work the same way Thomas Edison invented them. When electricity is connected to both of the sides of a carbon filament, it gets hot and light is produced. Normal fluoro tubes and CFLs have a closed glass tube that has a fluoro coating which glows as current is applied to the mercury vapour and argon inside.

Although you may have heard how these bulbs work, no matter how cheap they are, if you are turning them on more than about twice a year you are wasting your money. If you want to save money look for the green products. One of the newer Energy Star compact fluorescent light bulbs saves around 75% in costs over the equivalent incandescent bulb. In 6 months of usage a CFL will pay for itself saving you about $30 per bulb over its lifespan!

The CFL bulb has come a long way these days giving us a much wider choice of light spectrum that is omitted. Changing the mood of any room in the house, office, hotel etc is now very possible. You can choose CFL colors varying from a warm yellow to a daylight blue. Choosing a warmer colored light would be the right choice if you prefer incandescent bulbs. Some people are sensitive to bright white light so it’s a good idea to remember that when choosing bulb colors, the bluer lights can create this harshness.

If you look at the package that the bulb comes in it should have K for Kelvin rating, which gives you the “temperature” of the bulb. If you want a warm/yellow bulb look for a Kelvin rating of 2700k-3000k. A cool white bulb would be a Kelvin rating of 3500K-4100K. And if you wanted the Daylight Blue bulb look for a Kelvin rated bulb of 5000K-6500K.

Use 9-13 watt CFL bulbs if you want to replace 40 watt incandescent bulbs. For a 60 watt incandescent bulb use a 13-15 watt CFL. Use an 18-25 watt CFL to replace a 75 watt incandescent bulb. And look for the 23-30 watt CFLs if you want to replace 100 watt incandescent bulbs.

Please remember to recycle all compact fluorescent bulbs. It’s forbidden in some states to throw away old mercury bulbs with the normal solid waste trash. They do this as about 5 milligrams of mercury is in each CFL bulb.

If you want places to recycle your used CFL bulbs and other green products you can take them to places such as IKEA, (OSH) Orchard, ACE Hardware and Home Depot.

If you are wanting decorative lights, consider Energy Star qualified light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. These bulbs create the exact same amount of light as their equivalent incandescent bulb and use up to 90% less energy! It has been said that you can power 140 LEDs with the power required to burn one single 7 watt incandescent bulb!

So try the LED decorative lights for the outside and the give CFLs a go for the inside. The bulbs will help the environment and keep lots of money in your pocket at the same time.
